“For of His fullness we have all received, and grace upon grace. For the Law was given through Moses; grace and truth were realized through Jesus Christ.” – John 1:16-17 John wasnt saying that there was no grace under the Law of Moses, because there was. Each sacrifice was an expression of the grace of God. The Law also revealed God’s truth. But in Jesus Christ, grace and truth reach their fullness; and this fullness is available to us. In other words we are saved by grace (Eph. 2:8–9), but we also live by grace (1 Cor. 15:10) and depend on God’s grace in all that we do. Because we received the gift of grace we should also extend grace – this is the proof of the gospel in our lives. To simply hold someone to a set of rules brings condemnation, however, when you combine truth with grace you have a spiritual elixir that will draw others and proves your faith is real.
