For once in my life, I have NOTHING PLANNED today! You know what this means? Some one-on-one time with my favorite story in the history of literature. I just realized Ive never let you all into the innermost workings of my brain and showed you the exact source of where I get my weirdness from-- so Ill get a little deep with you all now. Please bear with me and my wall of text. xD Plain and simple, the reason Im the human that I am today, and love all the things that I do is because of this story. ElfQuest® the official page... If youre not familiar with it, you do not know what your life has been missing out on. For the last over 35 years Author/Illustrator husband and wife team Wendy and Richard Pini have been weaving a dark and beautiful fantasy tale of historical proportions. When I was born in 1993, and old enough to be coherent, the very first story that was ever read to me, was this comic series. My father who he himself grew up reading the story would sit in my bed with me every night and read 2 or 3 more pages of this incredible epic fantasy tale. While other 4 year old girls were reading of sparkles and pink frills-- I was reading of trolls, Elves, and wolves. My imagination developed and grew through the trials and tribulations of the Elves brutal fight for survival-- but still saw the beauty and joy behind their struggle. I cant thank my dad enough for starting me off on the right path so very young, and for sharing with me what he himself loved so deeply. Elfquest taught me the realities of birth and death, helped me to be cautious, to love, to forgive, and more importantly no matter what comes your way, to keep those you love close and to never stop fighting for what matters to you. It inspired me to write, to draw, to paint, to create-- in the hopes of creating magic just like they did. Above any other fandom Ive come across, this is the only story that I will take with me to my grave and beyond-- I treasure each speck with all I have! Although Ive read it through roughly 3000 times now, nothing will ever come close to making me feel the way this story does. I cant imagine my life without it-- and the very thought and nostalgia I get from opening up these familiar pages never fails to bring me to tears. So, thats that. I will never get over it. I am in love with Elves, and you should be too. Any other Wolfriders out there who understand my feels and have read the story too? Also, yes that is a mega-compilation reprint of the original story, and yes, those are also limited edition statuettes of the main characters. No shame. ;)
