For our family, friends and all of you who came to hear about my dad or knew him: We appreciate all of your kind words, calls, texts and messages. I wanted to share the obituary that my brother, sister and mom wrote for him. The information about his vigil, mass and funeral is included. We love you all and thank you for being present in this difficult time. OBITUARY ARNOLDO CALONJE-MAYORGA, 69 year old of Siuna, Zelaya, Nicaragua, who was known for his sharp mind, strong values, random acts of kindness, devotion to his faith, and contagious sense of humor, died of natural causes on December 29, 2014 in San Lorenzo, CA. Arnoldo is the son of Angela Mayorga and Francisco Calonje. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Salvadora Campbell de Calonje; son, Arnoldo Javier; and daughters, Noemi and Salvadora L. ; three brothers, Francisco of Miami, FL; Donald of Santa Clara, CA; Oscar of San Jose, CA; two sisters, Angela (Miranda) of Sunnyvale, CA, and Noemi (Bravo) of Solvang, CA; five grandchildren; Claudia, Katie, Linda, Joshua and Benjamin; and three adopted-by-love grandchildren; Oscar Eduardo , Marianela and Luis Alberto. Arnoldo lived his life to the fullest. He enjoyed taking trips, both near and far, with his wife and grandkids. He loved sharing his time, laughter, and knowledge. The Lord had blessed him with the knowledge that life is short and lived everyday as if it were his last – always making sure that the people around him knew that he loved them. He worked in the life-insurance field since his 20’s. When he and his family immigrated to the United States in 1981, he began to work for New York Life. He loved what he did for a living. He knew that the service he provided was something that families needed the most at their time of sorrow. He was a very ethical man who conducted his life guided by strong values. Arnoldo was a devoted Catholic who believed in sharing the blessings he had been given with others, especially the poor. He strongly believed that we all had a responsibility to help one another and always looked for ways to lend a helping hand. Granted – his help sometimes came accompanied by his words of wisdom and maybe some hard to hear truths. Arnoldo was the happiest when he was sharing a banana split, a piece of pie or having breakfast with the love of his life, his kids and grandkids. And he will be forever remembered for his never ending sense of humor. Visitation will be held on Monday, January 5, 2015 at 3pm at the Fry Memorial Chapel at 550 South Central Avenue, Tracy CA. The rosary will be prayed from 7-9pm. Funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at 10:30AM at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church located at 163 West Eaton Avenue, Tracy CA. His body will be laid to rest at the Tracy Public Cemetery District located at 501 East Schulte Road, Tracy, CA. After his funeral, there will be a small reception at the St. Bernard’s Holy Family Center located at 12100 West Valpico Road in Tracy, CA. Please join us in saying farewell to Arnoldo; beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, son-in-law, and grandfather.
