For sale in a few weeks: Pickles (Colonel Pickering – Foaled - TopicsExpress

For sale in a few weeks: Pickles (Colonel Pickering – Foaled 2005) is a 15.2hh 8yo, Bay Standard bred gelding. He used to race as a pacer but retired at the age of 4 and has become an exceptional riding horse. Since beginning his new career, pickles has had schooling with his previous owner to develop his flat work and canter. He has attended pony club with a 12yo rider along with many ribbon days with me, always returning with an impressive haul of ribbons. Pickles has attended many long treks (often with 50+ horses), beach rides and hunts, and always has impeccable manners and attitude. Self-Loads, easy to catch, worm, shoe and handle. He is currently barefoot and has excellent hard feet which wear well naturally – making trimming a breeze. Pickles can easily jump 70cm and has scope to go higher with the right rider. He has a beautiful trot and can canter, although does need work to balance this further (can still pace). Pickles loves to go out and can be forward moving if asked to and take the lead, but is happy to plod along at the back. He can be paddocked alone, although prefers company - can be a bit dominant, and can be ridden either alone or in a group. Has been ridden by many different riders, all come back with many compliments. He’s a gem to handle on the ground, respectful of space and will back from the wiggle of a rope and also knows how to lunge. Pickles is a real character and this is a very hard sale. He does have a few quirks to mention. He can get a little nappy if ridden in the same area a lot, and requires a rider to be firm – he gives in easily! He often over jumps something he is unsure of such as creeks etc., although this calms down after having been exposed a few times. He has spooked in the past, but never bolted bucked (Has pigrooted) or reared on me, although can jump up a tiny bit on back legs when being nappy. Will sometimes kick out at other horses when the get too close behind him. Can also bang around in the float if he gets impatient, so he is always bandaged or booted for travel. When out of work, or left unworked for a while, he will test you and may throw in a few pig roots, but this behaviour smooths out after more regular work. I believe he is more suited to a confident, no nonsense rider, but not a complete beginner as he will throw in a bit of attitude. Anything ive missed please ask. Trials welcome on property only, and can be taken somewhere else to ride if requested after a few rides at home. Vet Checks also welcome. $1500 WHANGAREI More pics and a few vids avail on request, will NOT sell sight unseen
