For several months I have been working with Livid Instruments & the dev team for their new guitar oriented controller called Guitar Wing. Jay Smith the founder & CEO of @lividindustry is going public with his battle with ALS. Here is a direct message from Jay- Dear friends and family, As many of you know I’ve been diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) earlier this year. ALS is misunderstood and grossly underfunded disease that only remains untreatable because there isn’t enough awareness or funds for it, not because some of the best doctors and researchers in the world aren’t working on it. The sad fact is that all doctors agree with more funding we could have a cure, accelerate the current research from decades to years, and save the lives of people dying with the diseases, like I am. I’ve turned my diagnosis into action and have started the nonprofit 90 Foundation with my family and friends every90minutes.org to raise money to go directly to ending ALS. Every 90 Minutes is how often someone is diagnosed and another dies of the disease. Currently most people die within 2-4 years of diagnosis, I intend on being around for the cure but need a lot of help from my friends in the fight to end it. in 2000 there was 1 trial in place to treat ALS, now there are over 80. We’re on the verge of turning this into a treatable illness, but for people like me who’s clock is already ticking it can’t come soon enough.
