For several years now I have been on a quest to locate the story - TopicsExpress

For several years now I have been on a quest to locate the story of what happened with the old Bonney Tavern after it left Penacook/Boscawen. While searching old newspapers for another project I came across a short newspaper item that lead to that answer. With the help of Steven Green, we were able to verify the facts. It seems that after the structure was dismantled, it was taken to New London, NH where it was reassembled to be used as a guest house for visitors of the Walter S. Bucklin family, on Lake Sunapee. Mr Bucklin, at that time was the President of the National Shamut Bank, of Boston, Massachusetts. After the structure had been reassembled and an addition add to the main house, a disastrous fire started on the evening of November 6, 1939. Within two hours the building was totally destroyed. While the home was insured the article stated that the place could never be duplicated and went on to tell how it had been brought there to New London from Boscawen NH and gave description of the reconstructed building. Below are photographs of the tavern building, one showing about where it stood. Thank you again Steven Green for all of your help and input.
