For some reason, CT State Congresswoman Esty is sending me weekly - TopicsExpress

For some reason, CT State Congresswoman Esty is sending me weekly emails welcoming me to give my opinions on current issues. This seems odd seeing as she is very liberal and like all liberals shares their agenda. Namely, to wrest the peoples’ power in favor of absolute government control. Still, I keep trying in vain to communicate with here with my sincere opinions. Please read the following letter I wrote her. “Like” if you like it, and share if you really like it. Or tell me I’m full of something if this is how you feel. Thanks Much! Dear Congresswoman Esty: Thank you for keeping us abreast about bills you are trying to pass. Also, thank you for explaining “No one working full time should have to raise their family in poverty.” I would think this would be an unarguable point and it is very hard to imagine any voter thinking otherwise. Therefore, it seems as if you are trying to tell us all anyone who disagrees with you is saying; ”lots of people should work long, hard hours and remain in poverty all their lives!” So, it seems as if you have set up a straw dog argument because anyone one who disagrees with the first statement must agree with the second statement and obviously, it would take a very mean person to do so. Different questions pertaining to raising families in poverty are, “Should anyone working part time have to raise his family in poverty? And, should anyone who is unemployed have to raise his family in poverty? Of course, these aren’t the only questions I could pose about being unable to escape poverty. Some of my other questions on the subject are: Should a company who employs full time employees be incentivized to cut these employees’ hours in order to avoid government mandates concerning their health insurance policies? Or, should a small businessperson whose business is facing financial ruin be demanded, by government force, to pay some of his or her employees more than these employees give this businessperson in services? This is an important consideration since paying people an amount of money greater than the benefit the business owner receives in services, is actually stupid and could cause this business to fail. As a consequence, this could put both the businessperson and his former employees in poverty? So, if a businessperson feels a certain employee is not worth the newly government mandated wage, should this businessperson still be free to lay off the employee or should the government arrest this businessperson for doing so? I ask this last question because if the government allows employers to lay off employees just because these employers feel they are being financially compromised by a minimum wage increase, some employees could lose their jobs. This, being the case, you may want to go all the way and completely confiscate a business who is paying people minimum wage so that the new minimum wage increase could be enforced with certainty. Finally, if a person is now receiving $18,096 a year, (40 hours per week, 52 weeks per year times $8.70) and receives a government mandated increase to $20,008, (40 hours per week 52 weeks times $10.10) will this assure his removal from the poverty category or will this increase be offset by his reduction in Earned Income Tax Credit? (Which, ironically isn’t earned at all) Actually, questions directly concerning the ramifications of laws raising the minimum wage aren’t the only questions that come to mind when pondering exactly how these laws play out. Another question I have is; if raising the minimum wage does not actually guarantee a favorable outcome for every employee and it does not guarantee a favorable outcome for every employer, who does benefit from minimum wage hikes? Could the answer possibly be that it is campaigning politicians who derive the most benefit? Ms. Esty, if you truly believe all of us will benefit from your increased mingling into our personal lives and business careers, and if you believe your business experience and knowledge trumps those of us who have actually run businesses all our lives and you truly think raising the minimum wage will help people without taking anything from anybody, then go ahead, by all means, go pass a minimum wage rate increase. But, don’t insult us with this $20,000 rubbish; make our wages at least $250,000 per year! If you really believe in minimum wage magic, stop tap dancing around and make your efforts very much worth their while! Sincerely, Edward J Lathrop
