For some reason I am thinking about the beach today. How lucky - TopicsExpress

For some reason I am thinking about the beach today. How lucky are we to have grown up in seaford..not only a great town but only minutes to the beach. Images of my life on the beach are running through my head. My first remembrances of Jones Beach are with the family. I also have a vivid memory of being there with Alyson Cole and her mom when I was little and almost drowning. Alysons mother pulled me out of the ocean...I was tumbling around like in a washing machine. She saved my life! Most memories are when I was older with my friends...1975 at age 15 we would go hang out on the boardwalk at Central Mall and on the sand. Those were fun days! Some times we took the bus there, sometimes we walked, mostly we hitched. Always hitching with a lit cigarette so if the wrong person picked us up and they tried to hurt us we could burn their eyes out, lol. Best days were long days ...with the end of the day looking all beached out...dark tan or burnt skin that would turn tan, beachy hair, beachy smell, beachy feel..aaahhh I remember it well. Anyone else? I am sure we all have very similar memories. 1976-1978 were spent mostly at West End 2 with my then boyfriend who was a surfer. Those were the days of getting lots of exercise walking the long walk down to the jetty. A few years later in 1984 going out to OBI and then going for there to the beach with Jean McCartie and sleeping there and waking up all burnt and playing volleyball with a bunch of strangers. When going to the beach Jean and I always had our routine. Lay in the sun, go in the water, have a cigarette wearing our mirrored sunglasses watching all the guys go by. ..except for the speedo wearers. Lol. We used to go out in the waves are then just start laughing which really was not a good thing when we needed to swim. I have memories of my stepsister Linda and I bringing Entemanns chocolate donuts with us which would get all melty and delicious! Aaah the little things! I cannot even look at one of those donuts without thinking of that. Nowadays my favorite beach food is fruit! When I had my daughter and started going it was really wonderful.. A whole new awesome world...really doesnt get better than this...building sand castles, big holes, burying each other, digging for sand crabs, running from waves, taking long walks looking for shells and sea glass! My favorite memory with my daughter is arriving very early and leaving late...spending all that time together and collecting shells late in the day. Oh and also playing buried treasure hunts! Than now I get to do it all over with my son. My favorite beach memory with him so far was taking a walk looking for shells and finding for the first time ever a starfish..then hundreds of starfish that we frantically tried to save by throwing them back in the ocean. I treasure the times there with my children. So peaceful, so relaxing, so beautiful. Whenever someone came from out state it was of course the place to take them! Some of my treasured last times with my BFF Cathy Quinn are there. Many great times there with great friends. Now that I am older I find I love going to the beach even outside of summer. This February on one of our better days during this crazy cold winter I was able to enjoy an invigorating, tranquil walk on the beach. While passing through field 6 my friend asked if I ever hung out there. Sooooo many years ago. I cannot believe how many years have passed. Many things have changed over the years but no matter how many years have passed, one thing has remained the same...that feeling...You all know it...driving along the parkway, going over the bridges and seeing all that beautiful water, you go through the toll booths, go around the pencil park, get out of your car and with one breath tranquility just washes over you and you dont want to leave. Yes blessed we are to live so close or to have once lived so close. I invited you to share your Jones Beach memories!
