For some reason, the notice of the meeting came in late, barely 24hr to the event itself. But somehow, Benola’s Advisory Board rose to the occasion and 8 of us made it to the Governor’s office at Alausa, Ikeja well ahead of time. Reception was flawless, our names were already at the gate, we were taken to a comfortable waiting room and at exactly 2pm, ushered into a conference room where 2 Special Advisers (Health and Youth & Social Welfare), Permanent Secretary Ministry of Health and General Manager Lagos State Office of Disability Affairs promptly joined us. Shortly after, Governor, Babatunde Fashola walked casually, holding a copy of “Benola’s Roadmap for CP” and asked that we state our case. We then made our 20min presentation which was well received and followed by a lively discussion. In closing the Governor directed his Special Advisers to see how some of the recommendations in the Roadmap could be implemented. He also directed them to explore other areas of possible collaboration with Benola. In closing, Governor Fashola committed to a piece of land for “Benola’s Centre for Cerebral Palsy and Assistive Technology” as well as a 16 Seater Bus. Indeed, to the Glory of God, it was an awesome day for Benola!
