For the 4th of July parade, we have “decorated” the BIG red - TopicsExpress

For the 4th of July parade, we have “decorated” the BIG red Chevy suburban (we named her DB2) with the name of our church, “Calvary Baptist Church.” We put the name on each rear side window along with some “striking” blue painter’s tape, so we would keep our red/white & blue theme. I wanted to add flames, but my idea was vetoed. Yesterday I drove DB2 to church. It’s funny what happens when your “Christianity” is “out in the open.” I was aware that people would be looking at me as an example of what a Christian, and in particular a “Baptist” was. As I drove, I thought…”I can’t do anything bad!” I better use my turn signals…not speed…no running “yellow but pretty darn close to red” lights! The world was watching!! RATS! How was I going to give some moron who was being stupid in traffic “the look” or other “signs” of my displeasure with their inability to perform the task of operating a motor vehicle, when I was driving a “moving billboard for God?” As I continued driving, that’s when it hit me…NO, not another car…a thought! Why was I not concerned with what people see when I was NOT driving a “Jesus Jalopy?” Am I not a Christian, even when I am “hidden?” Matthew 5:16 says “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” Maybe I need to remember that whether my Christianity is emblazoned across my vehicle (with or without flames) or just written on my heart, I should always act like the world is watching…cuz they are!
