For the 6th straight year students taking art classes at CSU, Chico are displaying exceptional artworks during the “10x10x20” exhibit/sale in the BS-O Gallery (the small exhibition space between the stairs and Art Department Office in Ayres Hall). The “10x10x20” exhibition name comes from each work being 10 inches square and selling for $20; proceeds are used throughout the year by the Art Department Shop for various equipment and supply needs. All students currently enrolled in the Art Department were eligible to participate. The participating students in this year’s exhibit are a mix of majors, non-majors, from Freshmen to Graduate students. Organized by Art Department staff member Dave Barta, the exhibit gives the students an opportunity to use the skills they have learned in their various art classes to create works for public viewing. For some of the students it is the first time their work will be featured in a public exhibition. A reception and awards ceremony takes place Wednesday, March 5th from 5-6 p.m. at the gallery. Local art collector Reed Applegate is this year’s juror. The exhibition will be up through March 7th. Although many of the works were sold within the first few minutes of the gallery opening this morning (Tuesday, March 4th) — in year’s past the line of people waiting to get into the gallery and purchase works has stretched all the way down the Ayres Hall corridor — there are still a few choice works available. If you get a chance, stop by the BS-O and see what our talented students are creating! For more information call the Art Department Office at 898-5218. More photos at on.fb.me/1e0gJaN.
