For the 7th consecutive time, Central City Public Library has received a FIVE STAR rating in Library Journals Index of Public Library Service 2014!***** Five stars is the highest rating that a library can receive. More than 7,500 libraries across the country were evaluated, but only 258 received a starred rating. Only 85 libraries received a five-star rating. The LJ Index gives an overall indication of how libraries stack up to their peers nationally. The ranking is based on the quantities of services the libraries deliver based on: per capita stats for library visits, circulation, program attendance and public internet use. Tuesday, Nov. 18 @ 6:30pm-7:30pm SMART INVESTING @ YOUR LIBRARY KICK-OFF EVENT: Where will you find money for college? ..Money to buy a home? …Money for retirement? The library is offering books, in-library events, and online curriculum, to help people make better decisions about their money by taking advantage of free, unbiased resources offered at the library. A Kick-Off Event to launch the library training is scheduled at the library on Tuesday, Nov. 18 at 6:30pm-7:30pm. The Wrap-Up Event will be held on Tuesday, January 6 at 6:30pm-7:30pm. Advance registration is recommended by stopping by or contacting the library at 946-2512. Participants who attend both the Kick-Off and Wrap-Up events and participate in the free online curriculum will be eligible for the drawings of an iPod Shuffle and $25 Amazon gift card. Participants can complete the online course at their own pace. This financial education effort is supported in part by a grant from Smart investing @ your library®, a partnership between the American Library Association and the FINRA Investor Education Foundation. The Smart Investing @ your library® Builds Nebraska Communities program is coordinated in Nebraska by the Nebraska Library Commission and the Northeast Library System. Monday, Dec. 1 @ 7:00 pm is our next Pinterest class. Wood-Block Snowmen will be the craft for the evening. Looking for some new, cute holiday décor? Or an easy gift to make for others? Join us to learn how to make these adorable snowmen from old 2x4s. Supplies needed: All supplies will be provided at this party. Friday, Dec. 5 @ noon-3:00pm Meet the Author ~ Mark Malmkar Stop in and visit with Nebraska author Mark Malmkar as he discusses his book MURDER ON THE GOLDEN STATE. Wayne Darnell, a senior FBI agent in the Chicago field office picked up the phone. Friday, Dec. 5 @ noon a Central Nebraska Community Services Navigator for the Healthcare Marketplace will be available to answer any questions regarding the Affordable Care Act or help you complete an application and enroll in health coverage. Open Enrollment to sign up for coverage through the Marketplace is from November 15, 2014 through February 15, 2015. If you are wanting to enroll please bring: Social Security Numbers or proof of legal residence for anyone needing insurance, Proof of tribal membership if American Indian or Alaska Native, Birth dates, Proof of income: Pay stubs, W-2 forms, or Wage and Tax Statements for everyone in the household. Wednesday, Dec. 17 @ 6:00 pm is the Pinterest Cookie Swap. Find a recipe from Pinterest to use in our Pinterest cookie swap at the library! Bring six dozen cookies to the library for the swap, mingle and enjoy some of the cookies, then take home a variety of 5 dozen cookies. Please sign up with your recipe by Monday, Dec. 15 (we would prefer to not have duplicated recipes). If you want to participate, but you cant attend the swap, drop your cookies off at the library on the 17th, and pick up your variety of cookies on the 18th.
