For the A.K. the worst tragedy with regard to capturing AFVs - TopicsExpress

For the A.K. the worst tragedy with regard to capturing AFVs happened in Kilinskiego Street on Friday the 13th August 1944 when a Borgward BWIV was abandonned by its crew outside the baracade. After some discussion it was decided to bring the AFV which most of the crowd regarded as an ammunition transporter into the defence area the vehicle rounded the corner into Kilinskiego Street but was stopped by a low barrier, the barrier was reduced by the estatic crowd and the vehicle moved forward but stalled on the displaced rubble the driver panicing to restart hit the charge release lever and the bomb box slid off, the crowd thinking the little tank was broken endevoured to replace the charge box not realising the fuse was counting down and at 18-05 it exploded causing between 300-500 fatalities.
