‘For the Civil Engineer, our life viewed by others’ We are Civil Engineers! What is your first thought when you hear this? Someone who can’t speak English or write one correct Sentence Or someone with no manners. And when we do write and speak English fluently When we treat you with our proper manners You feel that it’s too good to be true. We are Civil Engineers! What did you expect??? A shabby long hair with unattended body Or a bulging tummy with an arms size of a tree log. And when we manage to have silky straight hair, slim body and clean shaven face You can t help questioning our profession twice. We are Civil Engineers! What did you see?? Our shirts tugged in and pants pulled till the waist And gumboots up to the knee irrespective of our gender But when we dress in a ‘Fashionable manner’ You can’t help us asking ‘What is the Occasion?’ We are Civil Engineers! What did you hear? A person with a fat bank balance, Savings enough to last for a generations But when we say we don’t have bank balance You can’t help judging our ‘Honesty’ We are civil Engineers! What did you feel? A people with no fun to be around Or someone without any social life. But when we socialize, go out for dates and hang around with friends You can’t help wondering where we got all those free time. Let me tell you who we actually are Let me be their voice For I am one of them. We know how to speak and write English For we too completed our education in English medium. We do manage to have long silky hair, slim figure and clean shaven face For we are also an office going personnel. We do dress in fashionable manner and we don’t need an occasion to do that For we too live in 21st century. We don’t have fat bank balance nor we have enough savings to last for a generations and most of us don’t even own a car. We do socialize; we do go out for dates and do hang out with our friends For we also live in a society. We are Civil Engineers by profession Our dusty work sites, dressings and hot arguments we exchange with contractors Does not reflect our personality or the type of person you categorize us to be We are just doing our job Like everybody else. We are Civil Engineers by profession But at the end of the day We are also a human being Like everybody else.
