For the Czech Republic the request along with a memorandum handed over Prime Minister Václav Klaus January 23, 1996 in Rome. After April 26, 1996 took the Minister of Foreign Affairs he replies to the European Commission report on the application process. The questionnaire was completed and handed over in December 1996. The official invitation eleven candidate countries (Czech Republic, Estonia, Cyprus, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia) decided to representatives of EU Member States at the meeting of 13 December 1997 in Luxembourg.
