For the Smiling Dragons who participated in our Summer Modern League, I have news for you... I have thought a lot about this and have sought advice and guidance from several fellow shop owners and event organizers about how to handle the award of prizes for final placement in the League since participation was unfortunately low. To be sure, I wanted to be as fair as possible, given the circumstances, and MVG wants to be transparent about the decision-making matrix for the sake of confidence in our future League events. After careful consideration, I have decided on the following structure: First, there were originally 11 participants in the Modern League, each paying in $20. Even though one individual withdrew with a full refund on Day 1, I have been encouraged to keep *11* as our starting number. The rules governing the League were crafted by the participants in the League, together as a group, and we all decided that the prizes would be split and awarded to the top one-third of the group. Mathematically, there is no way to make top one-third work out with either 10 or 11, so MVG has made the Executive Decision that prizes will be split amongst the Top 4. In keeping with the spirit of the League construction guidelines, as reflected in my notes from the organizational meeting, the split will be 1st - $90, 2nd - $65, 3rd - $30 and 4th - $15, for a 100% payout. Congratulations to Geoffrey Drake (2nd place), Elliot Darrow (3rd place) and Matt Horne (4th place)! Your store credit will be reflected on your accounts tomorrow. Since I won first place, the credit I received will be added into the pool of a future MVG League as an incentive to greater participation! Thanks to everyone who played Modern with us this summer.
