For the Weekend: Today we will jump back into the hectic, frantic - TopicsExpress

For the Weekend: Today we will jump back into the hectic, frantic pace of our lives. Some of us will venture back to work, and others will race to the mall to return or exchange gifts and capitalize on store sales. The priorities of the last two days, God, family and friends, will become the casualties of our frenzied, hurried schedules. Life will be back to normal. Just because the world entices us to return to its stress and madness doesn’t mean we have to go. We can follow the masses streaming thoughtlessly into the world’s hysteria or we can follow the Christmas star and trod the path to the stable. Let the world have its chaos and disarrangement; you no longer have to participate in its nonsense. God’s gift of His Son means we can tarry with our Savior. As we go about our daily lives, it is no longer business as usual because the King of Heaven has come to earth. “Be still before the Lord, all mankind, because he has roused himself from his holy dwelling” (Zechariah 2:13). He comes to us, in the disorder of the world, offering us peace in the craziness. He remains with us so the stillness and calm of heaven can be ours through Him. He beckons us to step off the highway of hurry and linger in His presence. God is here. “I will live among you and you will know that the Lord Almighty has sent me to you” (Zechariah 2:11). His arrival was not a one day entrance and then out. He remains among us in the Person of the Holy Spirit. The gift of God remains in the world and unlike earthly gifts, God’s gift does not depreciate, diminish or decline. The Son of God dwells with us and offers us the opportunity to dwell with Him through the power of the Holy Spirit. Even as we go through our days on earth, we can begin our life in the heavenly realm through Christ. He is here so we can be there. In Christ we have refuge from the storms of life. We can pass through our days unhurried and fret free because He is with us. By the power of the Holy Spirit we can say no to the temptations of the world that call us to stray from the path of righteousness. With Christ among us we are safe from the forces of evil that threaten us. With God in our midst salvation, redemption and forgiveness remain sure. Christmas Day has passed but the gift of Christmas abides with us still. “’I will live among you,’ declares the Lord’” (Zechariah 2:10).
