For the attention of the Newsdesk The following statement has been released by William Frazer, spokesperson, FAIR Recently there has been increased talk in relation to the setting up of an enquiry to investigate allegations of Garda/IRA collusion in specific border region murders. It is understood the killings to be investigated will include the 1987 murder of Lord Justice Gibson and his wife Cecily and the IRA bomb blast which killed 3 member of the Hanna family in July 1988. However, it must be pointed out that we, the victims of IRA terrorism, raised concerns in relation to these and many other border killings, including the Breen and Buchanan murders, more than 10 years ago! At that time we called for a wide ranging enquiry to be established which would look into all the brutal murders perpetrated by cross-border terrorist gangs. Last week it was confirmed the HET and PSNI would now look at certain border murders on a collective basis. Whilst it is good to know some action is finally being taken on specific murders it must be stressed that IRA killings such as KIngsmills, Narrow Water and Drumuckaval must be included in any process. Theses atrocities cannot be excluded from the investigation as they were carried out by the same IRA gang which is indelibly linked to over 100 border region murders. FACT! We would also ask Irish police to explain their failure to either arrest or detain wounded IRA men when they were being treated in hospitals in Dundalk and Drogheda? Was it official Garda policy not to detain IRA suspects? These questions must be answered. At the height of the Troubles there were over 300 on the run IRA terrorists living in the north Dundalk area. These terrorists could come and go as they pleased. Irish police did absolutely nothing to prevent these same OTRs carrying out further atrocities against the border community in south Armagh. The border community want to know why the Irish police failed to act. We, the victims of IRA terrorism, want, indeed demand a full blown enquiry into the slaughter that was allowed to take place in the border region. This issue must be addressed despite the Irish authorities very clear reluctance to do so. Within the next few days, we, the victims of terrorism, will be handing over a letter outlining what we require to Irish Premier, Enda Kenny. The same letter will also be delivered to Prime Minister, David Cameron and to the incoming Northern Ireland Talks Team. The truth must prevail. We will ensure that it does!
