For the avoidance of doubt this and our sister Facebook group - TopicsExpress

For the avoidance of doubt this and our sister Facebook group Torfaen Matters do not condone racist posts or offensive maternal being posted here. We do however support freedom of speech and do not believe that controlling what is posted by people that have different opinions to those we hold is a good thing. Control of any kind achieves nothing in our opinion. Open and free debate does. That was one of the virtues of the Labour Party once. Members of TAR may support book burning but we never will. We would draw to attention the way the Labour Party challenged and debated the right wing views of the BNP in 2010 and won in many areas including Dagenham. When people bury their collective heads in the sand and start banning what they think is unacceptable no good can come from it and all that remains is fascist groupthink. This is the prevailing attitude of TAR locally and does not represent mainstream centrist thinking fortunately. Smearing and sneering at people has no place in our two groups and it never will. Anyone here remember when Labour used to allow free debate at their conferences? I do and inspiring it was as well where people were allowed to have their views challenged. We also believe that the rule of law in this country does not need interpretation by unqualified spokesmen and are happy to accept that if it breaches any law it should be reported and Facebook should remove it.
