For the electorate of Cairns, the Northern Pride have packed down in support of an LNP charge to establish a high performance sports centre in Cairns. Cairns MP Gavin King this week confirmed $1 million if he is re-elected on January 31 to build the facility at Cairns State High School, with the project starting as early as July. It is planned to include an Institute of Athlete Development – a tech-heavy sports science centre linked with James Cook University featuring a fitness assessment laboratory, game analysis theatre, lecture rooms and more. I’m not a follower of football but when the Northern Pride beat Sydney in the finals last year I’ve never been more proud in my life, a football team where every player works a full time job and went off to the big smoke and thrashed them. The LNP have brought Cairns into the 21st Century, Cairns can’t afford to go back now.
