For the fifth meeting of the GT4 European Series the organisation - TopicsExpress

For the fifth meeting of the GT4 European Series the organisation opened the „GT4 Invitation Cup” for drivers and teams to get familiar with the GT4 championship. The cup received attention from several teams. After a sabbatical year, Rijmarracing, better known as PS Autosport and former Dutch GT4 champions, made their comeback in racing. The Dutch racing squad entered the Invitation Cup with two BMWs M3 GT4. Peter Stox and Koen de Wit became second in the Invitation Cup and ended as ninth overall in the first race. Teammates Marcel van Rijswick and André de Vries ended up third (15th overall). Ten minutes before the finish of the second race both BMWs had to retire. Stefan Retzlaff and Nicolas Still deserve special emphasis, as the Mathol Racing drivers led the first GT4 race. Still: „I participate in the complete VLN series and the 24 Hours at the Nürburgring with the Aston Martin Vantage GT4. The setup we had to find was completely different to the Nordschleife setup, so we had to rediscover our home track. Normally we drive on Michelin tyres, but for this weekend we had to use Hankook. So it was quite a switch, but I know the track very well.” Still continues: „I think the GT4 European Series is really good, with great fights and it’s much closer than we are used to in VLN. Although we have smaller brakes compared to the Alfab Racing-Aston Martin, no traction control or race ABS, we fought for the lead. In the first corner there were three Ginettas in front. Jörg Viebahn and I managed to pass them and had a great fight for P1.” His friendly team mate Stefan Retzlaff, with very limited racing experience, took over halfway through the first race in leading position. „To be honest, I never raced on the Grand Prix track before and only have race experience in RCN on the Nordschleife. So you can imagine how it felt leaving the pit lane and hearing on the radio that I was leading the race. It went pretty well, until I got kicked out in my first race! But that’s racing. The driver apologized and admitted it was his fault.” In race two Mathol Racing became first (ninth overall) in GT4 Invitation Class and beat Erik Berggren and Thomas Fjordbach with the Sorg Rennsport-BMW M3 (winners of the Invitation Cup in the first race).
