For the first time ever, I have made the decision not to vote in - TopicsExpress

For the first time ever, I have made the decision not to vote in the elections today. Not to make some statement or because I dont believe in the candidates (although I do have serious concerns about most of them), but for one very simple reason: Im uninformed. Whether out of laziness or being busy, I simply didnt take the time to get to know the candidates or their policies. Thats really all it is. I believe it is the duty of every citizen to be informed and to truly be invested in their local political scene, and I just dropped the ball this year. Ive always been a big proponent of utilizing your right too vote. But thats all it is: a right. No one says you have to exercise it, just that you can if you feel the need. Uninformed voters shouldnt vote. If you have no intention of learning about whats going on and how someones policies and intentions in Washington are going to effect you, then you have no business at the poles. Period. Let the truly engaged decide, because they are invested. So if you were a better citizen than me and are up to date on what is happening politically, by all means vote. If youre not, then stay home. Dont ruin it for everyone who actually cares. And for those who want to throw out the tired old line, If you dont vote, you cant complain line, I refer you to George Carlin: https://youtube/watch?v=2Jnf9GILjFM
