For the first time ever weve got a few mice in the house. Quite a dilemma for somebody who lists All Things Bright and Beautiful as a Number One song! As much as I am happy to share the place with spiders, crawlies, etc I realise the mice cant move in as I would probably quickly be overrun with the wee things. I wont call the council or a commercial firm as I don t want them poisoned. So I have a collection of humane traps. Ive collected a few and released them into the great outdoors, in a place I know they will be reasonably safe. I have to say they look so cute. One tiny thing, probably on one of its first excursions seemed to be peeping at me from around the washing machine. When it saw me looking it ducked behind the machine, then slowly peeped again. I could easily have caught it I guess, but it was raining outside. I have these, lets call them Mouse Rules. I look at the weather forecast before I put the traps out, I make sure there is fresh food and some water in the trap, and I wont set it down if I am going to be out for more than 3 or 4 hours. So far I seem to be winning the battle against Mickey and his friends. Someone told me those killer traps were much better and more humane. I beg to differ. And just in case they need to get used to their new home outside I make sure I drop off a little food. Its the second line of my favourite song that sets the tone.... all creatures great and small.
