For the first time in almost a year, the 1986 Mustang GT in my garage started on the key---and shut off with the key!!! Thank goodness for the internet---I found a step-by-step troubleshooting guide to 5.0 Mustangs. It led me right to the tripped fuel pump shut-off. Dont know how or why ( or maybe i do....) but it was tripped. Fuel pump hummed for about 20 seconds ( I guess it forgot the words), and then I twisted to start and it did. Sounds really good. So All I need to do is re-install the interior, the rear lights, and front side markers, figure out the door lock wiring, and install a new convertible top. The top installation is made more challenging because the last install was not exactly by-the-book; not even close. They glued everything excessively, and did not even tack the top to the front header. But the worst part is that they failed to install the quarter pads. All the instructions say to match the new pads to the old location. If anyone has the measurement from the rear tack strip to the 4th bow for a plastic window in this 86 Mustang, Id appreciate the information. As I said, challenging. But what is life without challenges? Unless you hate auto electrical work as much as I do, you cant imagine the relief I feel now that the car runs, and I dont have to dive into the wiring harnesses.
