For the first time in its 77-year history, the Golden Gate Bridge - TopicsExpress

For the first time in its 77-year history, the Golden Gate Bridge will be closing for the entire weekend. The 52-hour closure will begin Friday at 11:59pm to Monday 4am. Its all to install a new $30 million barrier made of steel & concrete segments, replacing those little yellow plastic posts that bridge crews place - by hand - to separate traffic. Instead of watching crews slowly make the trip across the bridge removing or inserting the posts, they’ll use new trucks to lift and move the segments. The closure, of course, could cause some commuter stress if your travels take you beyond the North Bay. But, it doesnt have to be that way. TIP: If you do not need to go out this weekend, DONT! Stay in, watch movies, get a jump start on Spring cleaning. Otherwise, you and the average 80,000 drivers that commute over the bridge each Saturday or Sunday will all be using the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge. There are some alternate ways to get around the closure, if you must. Click on the link below for more information. Good luck! abc7ne.ws/14zIvO7
