For the first time since World War II, the main synagogue in Paris - TopicsExpress

For the first time since World War II, the main synagogue in Paris is not holding Shabbat services. Jews were asked to stay away from that synagogue and all synagogues in a centrally located Jewish neighborhood and close shop for their own safety. All those who gathered in the public square two nights ago, when the terrorists were at large (rather than dead), to protest and hold their Je Suis Charlie signs are now too afraid or too unconcerned to gather by synagogues and provide a layer of protection and support for Frances beleagured Jewish community? The attackers did not take hostages in a random local supermarket. They targeted Jews, in a kosher market where Jews shop, at the time they knew theyd be gathered to buy food for Shabbat. They targeted Jews, not because they worked for Charlie Hedbo, or read that magazine, or said disparaging comments against the Prophet Mohammed. They targeted Jews only because they were Jews. When there is a mass demonstration to condemn the attacks not only against Charlie Hedbo but against Frances Jews as well, then perhaps I will have a bit more faith in France. A few days ago, we all said, Je Suis Charlie. Id love to see us all say tonigh, Je Suis Juif. Shabbat Shalom
