For the first time since the unit was established in 1952, soldiers and officers from Unit 8200 have signed an insubordination letter expressing their refusal to continue supporting Israel’s occupation of certain territories. The letter, which was sent to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, was written by the chief of general staff and the unit’s commander. Although it is widely believed that serving in the intelligence forces involves no moral dilemmas (as opposed to serving in the field) and that the unit’s work contributes to the prevention of violence, the units’ soldiers and officers say otherwise.
