For the last 15 years January has been a time of planning for our annual Burns Supper. I was just translating Burns most famous poem into modern English and couldnt help thinking about my oldest friends like Todd McCray, Mark Mitchell, Dick LeMasters, Philip LeMasters, Laura Laura Margaret Dunigan Hastings and my cousins Jonathan McNeill and Mike Wunderlich. Auld Lang Syne (translated) Should old friends be forgotten and never remembered? Should old friends and the days of old be forgotten? For the old times my dear friend, for the old times. Well make this toast to the days of old. And surely youll buy your own pint and surely Ill buy mine and well make a toast to the days of old. The two of us have wandered the hills and pulled the flowers together so long ago but weve wandered alone and weary since then. So, to the old times my dear friend, to those old times together. Well make a toast to those old days. The two of us used to paddle our boat together from morning until the dinner bell but weve seen rough seas between us since those days. So, lets toast those days of old my dear friend. Lets toast those old days. Lets drink to the old days. So I give you my hand, my dearest old friend and let me take yours too and well drink this fine ale as we remember all our great times together. To our old times my dear friend, to our old times. Lets drink together and savor our old times.
