For the last 5 1/2 months, I have enjoyed the company of old Zusi. I imagine in his prime he was a force to be reckoned with; a proud and stoic dog who took his responsibilities seriously. I can see him on a big, rolling farm overlooking the area, and knowing that no shenanigans would take place on his watch. In his retirement he enjoyed spending most of his time outside in the good weather, but also learned to enjoy the comforts of a soft bed, in a warm house. Along the way, he made a quiet friend in Alfred, and thoroughly enjoyed putting silly Teddy in his place. He didnt need or ask for much, but I like to think he enjoyed my company. After all, he would brave the hard wood floors for a scratch on his head. He also appreciated the love and attention given to him by my neighbors, and their little girls. I did not want to say goodbye, but his job here was done. He needed to rest. So, while I am saddened by the loss of his presence, I will think of him walking the fields of Heaven, making sure everything is in tip-top shape. And, only when it is, then can he lie in the sunshine where he will wait for me to join him once more. Although our time was short, Im glad you were my dog, Zusi. I love you.
