For the last several weeks we have had nothing but overcast skies, clouds and rain. Somewhat unusual for Texas...even this time of year. Now I realize it was the earth grieving the imminent loss of one of her favorite sons. Today the sun is shining bright and full. Today my youngest brother Jiggy passed away. I believe the heavens are showing their delight and embrace with the sunshine and warmth. I mentioned yesterday that I have...had a brother who struggled with drug addiction. This is that brother. He had so many challenges in his life. Jerry was profoundly bi-polar when bi-polar wasnt cool. He had crossed eyes and poor depth perception as a result. He was very small for his age in a time when brawn was valued above brains in men. He was blessed with and cursed with a genius level IQ in a time when schools were not equipped to deal with such children. He was brought up in a loving, but VERY unstable home environment. If I had to describe my brothers life in one word I think I would choose embattled. I cannot describe for you Gods grace...to Jiggy and all who loved him...in that the last years of his life he found God, he found sobriety, and he found a love for himself. Never was a wish more fervently wished than when I pray that at last you have found peace. Rest in Peace
