For the majority of my working life I havent been able to have - TopicsExpress

For the majority of my working life I havent been able to have time off on public holidays, Christmas, Easter, New Years and even taking annual leave was heavily frowned upon. I had three days off when i had wisdom teeth out. I was always the person on the other side of the counter serving you your New Years drinks, helping you with those fashion emergencies. Selling you those last minute gifts. Shedding a tear in the back room because I missed my family and that year I wouldnt be able to go home, because even though I was there all the time, my minimum wage job just covered my expenses. Stepping up and earning more money meant even less time off and even on those rare occasions when I could see my family, I was constantly receiving phone calls from junior staff who were unsupported in my absence. So this year instead of busting that customer service workers arse because youve been shopping for five hours straight and still dont have a present for Aunty Ethel. Give them a smile and wish them a Merry Christmas. Because while youre at home enjoying yourself on Christmas Day, theyll be thinking about the sale they have to set up for on Boxing Day, dreading the chaos of New Years Eve or missing their family in another state. And please, please whatever you do, dont hang around after hours. Let those kids go home and enjoy those few hours with loved ones before they get back to the grind. We do the job because we love people, so send a little love back . Merry Christmas to all the worker bees.
