For the moment, assume that the national-level people who authorized torture were sincere in thinking it would save American lives, and that they either didnt get proper advice about its lack of utility in HUMINT, or didnt listen. So, I now have to ask a question that I occasionally ask consulting clients, but doesnt appear to have been asked here: Why is it important to get the wrong answer quickly?
