For the new friends of the page...my name is Matthew. I am a Southern California Certified Shorthand Reporter. I have been a CR since Dec of 04. Welcome! I got to these Facebook reporter forums in August of last year. I was just getting sober then. I had lived a pretty wreckless life before that. I was getting back on track, ie, being a grown up. In the process of that, I found out that I had some sort of ability to create images of ideas that had been in my head for years. I am very proud to be a CSR. It is the second oldest profession, and that is only because their hands were busy! I didnt fit the mold of what a CR was supposed to look like back in 00, when I started school. Shaved head, tattoos, sagging pants, locotes, truck on spoke rims...YEAH... wasnt the look. Now it isnt a big deal, and I am glad. It means minds are being opened. I was a lab aid, reader, grader, and later, instructor in school. I was also a very hardworking student. I quit.. (cough cough) ...was told I better quit or get fired...my full-time job and switched from night theory to day. I fell in love with steno my first night in theory. It became an obsession. I spent every second of every day practicing. It would not be uncommon for me to be on my machine eight to ten hours a day, including weekends. My bedroom walls were covered from floor to ceiling in poster boards, filled with words and phrases that I had trouble with. I would sit in the middle of my room and practice them until I got them down pat, then replace them with a new poster board full of words. My theory teacher (Diane) can attest to this! Best theory teacher EVER! More of my story later...so stay tuned. Its Thanksgiving...and I want to spend one peaceful evening with my loved ones. Because I am in the middle of a very serious situation, my sister agreed to help out with the pages for a while. Her name is Hallie. She is a new mom. She is also a developmental therapist, former deaf studies major (made it to the interpreter cert stage and realized it wasnt what she wanted to do), a member of CASA, holds a masters degree, and is heavily tattooed! That is my nephew, Bastian. He is a baby....so he just kinda hangs out. She only agreed to this pic cause he looks the best in it! LoL
