For the new ones: Clara was my first goat. She was very, very - TopicsExpress

For the new ones: Clara was my first goat. She was very, very sick when she was young & nearly died & that definitely shaped her personality & made her more dear to all of us. She is calm & dependable & up until this spring was free-range on our property, never leaving, able to get whatever she needed: maybe lick the vehicles for some salt, maybe browse from some trees. We all became very sick of goat poop on the porch, a favorite place for them to rest. Plus, the UPS man probably got a little tired of goats jumping in his truck!! In addition, Ive started some apple trees that I do not want my goats eating. Plus we really dont want to be THOSE hillbilles, with goats wandering everywhere!! So my dad built us a pallet fence & it has worked wonderfully. This morning I woke up to Clara being very, very loud. Its been 3 weeks since I suspected she might be in estrus. I have a possible buck nearby and if I really think she is in estrus I want to inquire & see if I can take her over!! Anyway, after milking today, (Again for new ones- Clara gave birth for the first time with all of us watching to a healthy boy & a healthy girl 5 months ago. We sold the boy & kept the girl. Ive been milking her ever since but first time fresheners dont always have a lot of milk & she isnt giving much. Im considering drying he off.)- After milking I had compassion on her & decided to let her roam. Im keeping an eye on her and trying to notice if she is extra-vocal or her tail is wagging a lot- OR if she starts eating my apple trees!!
