For the past 6 years I have been associated with multiple fundraisers, always putting others first and foremost. A few years back I started helping a friend of mine (Brian lapila) with his called Bench press for Breast Cancer. Something that started out as helping others, quickly found a way into my family. As quick as the news came that my mother was diagnosed with Breast cancer, my family had a plan, and we kept the hope. At times the news we heard was good, at times it was bad, however my mother being the warrior she is kept face, no matter how scared or worried she was. My sister, an RN, was a rock through it all, taking charge, and went to every single doctors appointment with mom, for she definitely understood things medically more than I did. Looking back, this was unfair to put her in such a situation. There was a time that we almost lost hope, however my sister and I were able to convince my mother to get a second opinion, as stubborn as she is...We convinced her tto leave her doctor and to go to Hartford Hospital To See Doctor Defusco. As stubborn as my mother was, and ready to give up because her previous doctor was out of options, she agreed to see her. After meeting with doctor Defusco, my mother had hope again. Doctor Defusco had options, and immediately got her into Boston to get a second opinion to compare to her own. They compared their notes, and there was many options, unlike what her previous doctor stated. There was new medication that was just approved, and more that was about to be approved. Our family was restored hope. My mother has life in her again, she is able to enjoy walks, her grandkids, and things she was not able to under the older medication. She is a warrior, and is now millimeters away from remission! I would like to thank each and every one of you who has donated in the past Pink Tie Affairs, because it could have been our dollars that helped with this new drug that has prolonged and saved my mothers life. I want to thank Doctor Defusco who is an angel to our family. All proceeds of this years Pink Tie Affair will be donated to the Harry and Hellen Gray Cancer Center of Hartford hospital. I hope to see everyone on October 17 for the Pink Tie Affair and to celebrate a very special ladies 54th birthday, my mother, Theodora Coitrone
