For the past eight years, my birthday has been bittersweet: a time for celebration but also for remembering and reflecting. It does not seem that many years ago when Eric asked me, How was your 18th birthday? at school the day before he passed away. I am grateful for that last, short conversion with him and I will always remember it. When I read what Chad Power wrote today, I completely agree with wishing I could see where Erics life would have taken him. I know he would have been successful in whatever he chose, but I also know he would have wanted to help other people too. As I graded math papers after school today, I couldnt help but think of how Eric influenced me to choose my teaching career. I will also never forget the conversation I had with Eric early in our sophomore year. He asked me if I would teach a CCD class at our church with him. That was my first teaching experience and, like CJ Cooper said today, I can say that I would not be where I am today without Erics friendship. I wish he was here with us today but know he will always be watching over all of his family and friends. Love and miss you Eric.
