For the return leg in Groningen on Thursday night Id really like - TopicsExpress

For the return leg in Groningen on Thursday night Id really like to see us use Hayes in his correct position. Hayes is one of our best attacking players. (However, fair play to him hes done good as a LB). In the next leg, I believe that we will have to take advantage of our pace going forward on the counter attack through the likes of Pawlett, McGinn and Hayes. It is most likely that we will be setting up with: Rooney McGinn Pawlett Robson Flood Jack Hayes Reynolds Anderson Logan Langfield What I think is that we need a team that can involve our three fast attacking players (Pawlett, McGinn and Hayes), in there preferred positions, as well as our more creative players (Jack, Robson and Flood). With all Ive said, I do see where McInnes is coming from in playing Hayes at Left Back. Probably so that he can deal with the oppositions wingers with pace. So, whats our other LB candidates? -Considine -Robertson (if he can make it back in time) -Reynolds -Jack -Considine - personally dont think hes quick enough but one of the strongest possible options. -Robertson - Doubt hell make it back in time from his injury, even if he does its far too big of a stage to just throw him in at, also dont think that hes good enough anyway. -Reynolds - Got the pace, however he is a crucial part of that central pairing. Couldnt afford to lose a player of his quality in the centre of our defence at a game of this high standard. -Jack - Ryan also has the pace to cope with their wingers however is it too big of a risk to take such an important player out of the heart of midfield? To me, Jack is our best option, he has played there plenty of times before and done a good job and I believe that he can do just that on Thursday night. Flood and Robson are easily good enough to control the midfield as we have all seen before. So, another option is: Rooney Pawlett Hayes Robson Flood McGinn Logan Reynolds Anderson Jack Langfield However, is this too much of a risk? This is the kind of game where we are wanting to keep possession and knock the ball about in the middle of the pitch. So, also youd be wanting to keep Jack there too! Keeping possession but also trying to pack and boss the midfield. Im guessing that Groningen will have the same thought. Tough decisions ahead for Derek! If his mind isnt already made up that is! What is everyones team selection for this massive upcoming game then? Also thoughts on Jack, Hayes or anything! -KD
