For the second of our six themes for the General Election we are focusing on getting Britain working with full employment. This means having over 74% of people in work and enabling people in West Yorkshire who want to support their families to find the job they need. We will do this by increasing to 75,000 in the number of start-up loans provided by the government in the next parliament and investing in infrastructure to support and attract businesses. This week I took a number of local business to Downing Street to meet the Chancellor and discuss how building a Northern Powerhouse will bring jobs to the #Leeds and #Wakefield areas. Since 2010 the government has demonstrated our ability to deliver on our employment pledges: Unemployment is now at 5.8%, the lowest level in over six years - a total fall of 600,000, including 68,000 in Yorkshire and the Humber. The number of young people claiming Jobseekers Allowance has fallen every month for the past 3 years. 2 million new apprenticeships have been created. We are pledging 3 million more in the next 5 years. Since 2010 an average 1,047 jobs have been created every day and the number of open vacancies is at a record high
