For the slightly more advanced gym user here is a standard barbell roll out which I use to strengthen the anterior (front) core muscles. The purpose of the exercise is to help me to avoid spinal flexion (back arching) during strenuous activity, so that my spine can remain in its favoured neutral position. For the less advanced, work through your plank variations for some time before you attempt this. I can provide easier variations on request for those who are at that progression point before the full roll out.
