For this Dr. Martin Luther King day-- OLE provides this speech by Dr. King that many are not familiar with. In this 1967 speech Dr. King spoke of the 2 Americas--that of ALL people living in poverty vs the narrow band of the very wealthy who lived in perpetual privilege. That fight for all of Americas poor and middle classes--People of Color, Asians and Caucasians--with an emphasis on the importance of a society that honored ALL people as equals--with EQUAL Opportunity was the 2nd step of the legacy of his great work. Dr. King understood in no uncertain terms--that the civil rights act and the breaking down of Jim Crow was only the first step--and that the struggle for GENUINE EQUALITY would take a long term struggle across the entire nation, not just the states of the confederacy--and for all people--not just Negros. Of course, as with most things, he was Correct--and we still engage in that struggle today--nearly 50 ears later. Listen to this--and know the truth--as OLE honors the strength, the vision and the Truth of this Great American Patriot and Hero. It was with this speech--and his work on poverty and economic equality--that we see the true breadth of Dr. Kings work--and that he was much more than an activist for civil rights--but was instead a true patriot determined to reach full equality for ALL in the USA.
