For those friends of mine who are not involved with the trucking or logistics industry, the grass roots, Facebook attempt at a truckers protest / march / shut down that is scheduled for next weekend, in no way represents myself or my company. This movement is being led by a loud minority within our industry. This group does not speak for me, is comprised of mostly uneducated and ignorant individuals, and is severely misguided in my opinion. They are talking out of both sides of their mouth. They carry a constitution in one hand and talk about rights being trampled, but yet in the other hand demands for government regulations regarding minimum pay for drivers and minimum haulage rates for carriers. This is a communist ideology and goes against everything I believe. If you do not have the ability to make a profit in this business or any other due to lack of education, lack of dedication, or lack of work ethic, then the government is not your problem. The person looking back at you in the mirror is your problem. I have always found it very odd that many people in modern society claim to be politically conservative until such point as those conservative values negatively affect them. At that point they turn into the biggest screaming liberals that you have ever seen. This mindset seems to be prevalent in the trucking industry. To those who would support this movement that may be reading this, I will simply say that it is business. Not everyone can succeed. One may not be a good business person, but that does not make them a bad person.
