For those interested in Spokanes history: I mentioned in an earlier post the book Spokane Corona, Eras & Empires by Edmund T. Becher. Its an excellent read and the book was printed in 1974 here in Spokane. Edmund T. Becher pioneered the introduction of Northwest History classes in the secondary schools, and taught evening classes for area colleges. He was a Social Studies Consultant Emeritus for Spokane Public Schools, vice president of the Eastern Washington State Historical Society, he chaired the History Committee of the society for many years, produced motion pictures on local history, many educational television productions, and he also produced a documentary on the Spokane Indians that was nationally televised, winning him the Teacher of the Year award. I have a treasured copy of his book (now out of print). Copies can be found on Amazon and I highly recommend it for anyone interested in early Spokane.
