For those interested in facts regarding CPA the text of the Act itself has been posted below. A bit cumbersome reading, but useful. I am also posting information from the coalition that created CPA 14 years ago, with a good track record in 150 communities. This is the Community Preservation Act. As such our community can support projects that promote the community. This is a practical and fiscally savvy program that draws state money to the tune of last year +52% on the dollar back to the town with a CPA program in place. As to the nostalgic 20th century idea that we will all come together and raise a barn, I would point out that the number of barns in Mass. are declining and considered in some cases to be historic assets worth protecting. I would also point out that a state study demonstrates the positive economic impact preservation of historic relics, barns, schools, street corners, libraries and town halls have on a towns financial picture that can impact their tax base.
