For those of us on Camp Pendleton, there is an update on the furlough situation. Please see the official USMC Manpower link: manpower.usmc.mil "Breaking News: Based on guidance received from SECDEF and SECNAV, all Civilian Marines are required to return to work on Monday at the normal start of the workday, with the exception of those not performing operational duties in one of the following functions: •Chief Information Officer (IT and CYBER are to return) •Deputy Chief Management Officer (DON level) •Legislative Affairs and Public Affairs •Auditor and Inspector General Employees who are not to report to work are to be notified on Sunday, 6 October 2013. If you have questions regarding your status, please contact your supervisor or command representative. The above decision is a result of the “Pay Our Military Act” passed by the Congress and signed by the President. Among other things, the Act provides for the pay and allowances to the civilian personnel of the Department of Defense who the Secretary determines are providing support to members of the Armed Forces. The Department of Justice has advised that the Act does not permit us to recall all our civilian employees from furloughs. Based on this advice, the Department’s Leadership has spent a significant amount of time in identifying civilian personnel who meet the definition of the Act based on the functions they perform." Well, it says we will be notified on Sunday if we are not to report to work. It is now about 15:30 and have not heard anything yet. I do not know how this will happen on a Sunday. I might play it safe and show up in the morning on Monday anyway. The worst that could happen is that I might be told I am not working. If not, will simply go to eat breakfast, go home, and wait further word.
