For those of us who own Cats, you might want to read this. Emergencies happen all the time... usually when you least expect them. We cant stop the unknown but we can be prepared for it. Thinking ahead just a little bit can mean the difference between a minor inconvenience and a major problem. Today Id like to tell you about the best way to be prepared for a pet emergency: keeping a pet first aid kit ready. Now, you might be thinking “My cat never gets hurt, why would I need a first aid kit?” The truth is, the average household is filled with common dangers and most cats are very good at hiding their injuries so you may not even know they’re in pain. That’s why it’s always a good idea to have a first aid kit even if you think you won’t use it. These are so important to keep on hand. I have a pet first aid kit at home and another one in the car, and you would not believe how many times Ive used them. The items inside really come in handy; I use these kits for everything from torn nails to small cuts or lacerations, and Ive even treated a neighbors cat for a bite wound with one. Whenever Im out and around I look for a good quality commercial first aid kit for cats: something with a reasonable price that I could recommend to my readers. Ill be honest though: I havent found one that I really love. The ones I have found are either poorly made or they are very expensive. Well, that shouldnt be enough to prevent my readers from keeping their cats safe. I really do think that first aid kits are very important to your pets wellbeing. They’re so easy that you can even make them on your own. To help out, we put together a list of what should be in your first aid kit. Most people make theirs in a fishing tackle box but Ive also seen people use small canvas bags, old ammo cases, or even a kid’s lunchbox. To find out what you will need in your first aid kit, go to How to Make Your Own First Aid Kit. Print this list and pick up these items the next time you go to the store. Most of these supplies are inexpensive and easy to find. For example, you can pick up a bottle of hydrogen peroxide for under a dollar at any drug store. You might even want to buy enough to make more than one kit. If your pet experiences a minor health problem, you will be very happy that you had one of these first aid kits on hand.
