For those of you in your missionary efforts who have heard the question, why did your church not allow blacks to hold your priesthood when Brigham Young became president? If youve struggled with an answer I want to help you with a reasonable response. During those times the saints were persecuted for believing in Joseph Smith fairy tales, so called lies, even for allowing blacks to be free among them, without segregation. The saints endured an extermination law put on them. All are equal in Our Fathers eyes, but wasnt in mans. Considering what they were doing to the white saints would of been double jeopardy if the black saints were allowed to take the fullness of the gospel and proclaim it to the world. It was a protection rather than the word restriction used in a negative way. Many saints could not trek west, they staying behind proclaiming the gospel caused new members. It was hard for many of the saints after settling in Utah to not be prejudice looking down on the Blackman. But were taught by The Prophet Brigham Young and authorities to love everyone as equals. But, the wide spread of the church away from Utah did not view blacks as equals even up until Martin Luther King and civil rights he fought for. The Prophet Brigham Young proclaimed the will have it again one day and much more. I hope this had helped you in your missionary efforts..
