For those of you unfamiliar with the Edgar Allan Poe story, The Cask of Amontillado dives into the depths of human depravity, our need for revenge, and the depths were willing to go to in its pursuit. I mean, inviting someone over, getting him drunk, chaining him down, and building a wall to encase him for enternity while he begs for his life isnt the tale of your normal dinner party. Likewise, The Alan Parsons Project hasnt created a typical song to encapsulate such an unusual subject matter. Its littered with the musical trappings of something dark, and is a masterpiece in symphonic rock, especially as it incorporates horns and the feeling that, as the deed is being done and the wall is growing taller and more permanent, the victims pleas for mercy have fallen on the deaf ears of raw hatred. Not only is this a great song, but its probably one of the best songs most people have never heard (or even heard of).
