For those of you who are artists that have been touched by the death of Hynsu and the likelihood of justice not being served and/or the Saturday Night Live Korea skit mocking adoptees and their birth mothers, Id like to put this out there: What can we do as artists to draw attention to these issues to the regular Korean citizen who probably doesnt understand or even know about what is happening or who we are? They may be prejudiced against us. They may not see us as human beings equal to themselves. I once saw an art piece in Seattle at a public lake honoring lives lost at, I believe, the bombings of Nagasaki and Hiroshima at the end of WWII. It was small, hand-made gravestones set up all along the side of the lake. The sheer numbers were stunning. It wasnt just a story, it was an experience. Perhaps if they were made aware of our numbers on a real scale, it would open up some eyes... Thoughts?
