For those of you who aren’t aware, the Town of Brookhaven Animal Shelter was closed from August 28th until October 7th due to ringworm. Throughout this lock-down, stray dogs were admitted but adoptions were suspended. Consequently, the population increased from 160 dogs to over 200. The capacity or number of kennels in the shelter is 77. As a result, many animals were killed and a strong effort by volunteers has been launched to remedy long-standing problems at the Town Shelter. These volunteers will be addressing the Town of Brookhaven Supervisor Ed Romaine and the board tonight, October 29th, at 5PM at the Brookhaven Town Hall (1 Independence Hill, Farmingville, NY). Come out and support LION, these volunteers, and the animals at Brookhaven Animal Shelter. They deserve better.
