But every now and then, a situation comes up where we are truly given a chance to show our appreciation and love for TRUE Blues artists, and to give our support to those in need who are keeping this great music alive in its purest form. This Sunday is just such an opportunity. John Blues Boyd is not a household name. He doesnt even have a Facebook account. If you know him, you know that he is not a schmoozer who makes a lot of friends on the surface level. But he IS the Real Deal, if you are a die hard fan of undiluted Blues. For as long as Ive known him, and for years before that, the number one thing on his mind has been caring for his sickly wife, Donna. He is one of the sweetest and most genuine people I know, and without a doubt the most loyal, caring and devoted husband I have ever seen. Just a few weeks ago, John lost the love of his life (47 years together), when Donna passed away from kidney failure. John was crushed. We were a handful of blues musicians and friends at the funeral and saw John say goodbye to his soul mate. He told us that he is now in dire financial straits. Giving Donna a worthy funeral, losing work so he could care for her and now losing her social security check, John needs our help. I consider him family. He is a truly great blues performer, and if youre a blues fan, he is your family too. We are having a BIG show at the Smoking Pig THIS SUNDAY to do what we can to help him out. You are only hearing about it now because it took a little work to assemble this group of Super friends for John Blues Boyd. This Sunday you can see Rick Estrin, Tommy Castro, Frank Bey and Anthony Paule, Terry Hanck and many more lending John a helping hand. For FREE!! Money donations large and small are HIGHLY encouraged of course. But thats only part of helping John heal. He needs his spirit lifted and to see that people are there for him, as he is as heartbroken as a man can be. I urge everyone to spread the news of this event as much as you can.
